Permethrin spray. You apply it to your clothes, especially around the cuffs and waistband. You let it dry overnight and its good for several washes. Works way better than DEET

Growing up in MT we never had them, living in KC we get them yearly and they suck big time. Permethrin works for both chiggers and ticks.

I have a pair of light weight OR gaiters. I absolutely soak the things with permanon, same main ingredient in Permethrin. I buy it at the local farmers co-op in a concentrated form, you just mix it with water. People buy it for spraying around their barn, etc... 8 bucks and you'll have enough to last years. But the gaiters go a long way to keeping ticks off, but I spray my clothes down as well and retreat them after three or four washings. Works great for ticks as well.

Sawyers is one of the more common brands you'll find, especially in big box stores.

My hunting clothes get an application in the spring before our turkey season and another for early fall season. Other gear will get a dose if I'm hiking/scouting...

Every few years those buggers get me, usually after leaning against a pine tree in the south...

Seriously, I had this discussion with an old timer that love to turkey hunt and he said he wore them, said the turkey's couldnt see them and neither could anybody else but they worked. Not sure how he came up with it ! And NO I have not tried to either prove or disprove his statement !

Permetherin..... with the increase awareness of tick related diseases throughout the US there's manufacturers now making permetherin laced clothes and I believe there's even a detergent now that you can wash your clothes with to treat them yourself. Then run a cycle or two without clothes and your washer is back to normal.

The way I understand it is permetherin for human use is virtually the same as frontlilne (what you'd treat a pet with for fleas/ticks) only in a lesser dosage. I've seen what it does for dogs, truly amazing. Constant exposure to the chemical has me raising an eyebrow but it would beat lymes or any other disease, and it probably woulnd't hurt for short term exposure to avoid chiggers.

I have been using Permitherin for 2 years or so. Bought a huge bottle on Amazon and I mix up batches in 5 gallon buckets and then soak my clothes in it per the instructions. Have not gotten a tick, chigger, or mosquito bite since. Attached is a link with some instruction I found on the net.

Be sure to include the tops of your socks for permethrin application. Chiggers like being between tight clothing and skin, waistband and socks are common areas.

Don't rely solely on permethrin for mosquitoes unless they all land on your clothes. Flying critters can go directly to exposed skin and avoid the permethrin. I use Thermocell and topical Picardin which is a deet alternative that doesn't breakdown fishing line or take the finish off your rifle or bow.

The ticks are getting thicker every year. Took about 50 off me in one day in a ground blind. Was treated for lymes the last 2 summers. Just 3 years ago we didn't have chiggers .
