Has anyone compared the garmin watch monitoring vs a standalone strap? If a chest strap is unanimously better, any recommendations?

Got a Fenix 5x plus and use a polar chest strap. Use this to make sure I don't push too hard and watch standalone is way the hell off over a variety of activity regions. Have not tried any others so cannot provide more info than that. Accuracy was checked against doc's system during stress testing.

I have a garmin watch and polar strap. The strap is more accurate for me. The watch sometimes when my heart rate goes up quickly doesn’t respond. With the watch though it is nice having it as a reference right on your wrist as opposed to needing an app open.

Strap is consistently more accurate the optical wrist.
Been using the Polar H10 for years with a Garmin now a Coros. Also syncs up quick with any cardio equipment you may want to use.

Does the strap output not flow to the watch face? (Garmin)

It does. Some folks also get curious about how to know if the watch is using the optical sensor in the watch vs the strap.

You can check the connectivity in settings. If connected, the strap will override the watch for HRM.

I have the Polar H10 as well. It’s been great.

Pulling the trigger on a polar today. My watch has been doing some wild stuff like reading way low or way high and flat out freezing

I use the HRM Pro. I got it after using the stair climber and my watch reading inaccurately. No thoughts on others but it has been worth it for me pairing it to my Garmin Fenix 5.

I've been using an Amazon Halo wrist band for a couple months, no idea how accurate it is. Use it to track calories burned, so I can log in MyFitnessPal.

Amazon is ending the Halo app in about a month, so I've started to shop for something new. Been leaning toward a chest band. About the same price, allegedly much more accurate, but less convenient.

I have been using the polar h10 for a week now. Got it online for $48 and there’s a definite discrepancy in what I had been tracking on my wrist (garmin). I like the chest strap and no real inconvenience other than remembering it. I just leave it in my running shoes

Good price, where'd you find it?

The strap will be more accurate. The Polar H10 or H9 are good, I use an H10 with my Fenix 7.

The only reason to get a Garmin strap is if you want the specialized metric's such as vertical oscillation. The H10 will give you that, but you have to record the activity on the strap, then access it through Polar's app. I don't bother, not sure what to do with that information anyway.
