Chest holster - kydex vs...

Considering a chest holster for a full size 1911. I am a big fan of HPG kit bags, but I don't always need/want the conealment that a kit bag offers.

The obvious choice is the Gunfighters Kenai kydex setup or something similar. Retention seems ideal with kydex, and the strap setup looks good for using with a pack. My main concern is the comfort of having a kydex holster strapped to my chest.

There are also leather holsters like the Diamond D Guides Choice and nylon holsters like the Diamond D Denali. With a pistol without a manual safety, I'd be looking exclusively at kydex. Since the 1911 has a safety, I'm open to leather and nylon. Dealing with the retention strap seems like the major downside of these options.

I put some felt backer on my kenai to help with the wear along my chest with a thin shirt on.

I’ve got a couple and never felt the need to change a single thing. One is for a 1911 sized pistol, one for a 686, one for a SP101. They work great unless you’re constantly shedding and adding layers, which I always seem to be doing.

Lucky me... the local Murdoch's had both a Gunfighters Kenai and a Diamond D nylon holster in the store and I was able to take them out of their packages and mess with them. The Kenai was undoubtedly more comfortable. I'll be going in that direction.
