Chest Holster Debate

Hey everyone, I’m looking into a chest holster for backcountry expeditions to be worn in combination with bino harness and my pack. Currently I am going back and forth between the recon from invader concepts and the kenai from gunfighters inc. I’ve seen some threads going over these products individually but haven’t seen one comparing them directly. They’re both expensive but I feel these might be my best options.

If you have experience with either and or an opinion of a brand I might not be considering please let me know.

Take a look at Wasatch Holsters. Half the price of invader and gunfighter. Awesome quality. I love mine.

If your rig has any type of screws, always have the appropriate screwdriver with you when in the field; probably have spare parts as well. Also ensure that you do a regular PM activity to tighten them down.

The Razco I have for my 10mm came apart when taking it off to hop into my sleeping bag. The screws and washers were gone and I have zero idea when and where it happened. Thankfully my bino harness kept everything in place that day.

Irksome but no risk to life or limb by having my 10mm stay in my pack after that.

What did you end up going with? I've been on the fence on this for about 2 years now on what to do. Need to do something here in next month as I'm bear hunting in 5 weeks.

I’ve been wanting to try an HPG recon kit bag and modify my SG bino harness to attach to the kitbag. Bino harness just needs molle on the backside. Kitbag could then hold a pistol, spare rifle mags, fire kit, etc…

I've got the Kenai from Gunfighters on my Kuiu Gen 2 Chest Rig for my Glock 19. Great setup. Keeps it secure and close to my chest and doesn't add much "felt weight" compared to the Binos, Rangefinder, Phone, and bearspray already on the same rig....

Camping without dogs or tent, I don't think it's that paranoid to sleep with the holster on. Haven't really been able to reconcile that with an all-in-one setup. I've considered it, though. Sleeping with an empty bino harness on.

I’ve been running a Kenai under a Sitka and this year a kifaru with the small straps and no mags, still need to test the fitnent when it shows up. It took a decent amount of time to get comfortable drawing from my Kenai and being accurate from any position ect. When in camp how do you adjust going from hanging under the bino to belt or even another chest holster ect in a day? When in AK I carry 24/7 in the backcountry and would like a better option to eliminate straps but question the effectiveness of a guy actually needs it. Also I work and can’t hit the range daily.

I know this is a little late but give this a look. Check out the Rowan Holster at

Made in USA and specifically for the Kuiu Pro harness and the new Kuiu Pro G3 Harness

I tried the chest holster for a very short time and decided it wasn't for me - just too many straps and too bulky. Also, keep in mind how often you may be sweeping others if you're not hunting alone.

I used a blade tech with a drop and tek lok for a couple years and liked it. I now use a Dara holster with a drop attachment and small paddle. It's easily my favorite by a long shot. The Dara sits much closer to the body than the Blade Tech did so I barely notice its there. I can move it from my pack to pants belt in just few seconds when I drop my pack, in camp, in the truck, etc.
