Chest Holster Debate

Hey everyone, I’m looking into a chest holster for backcountry expeditions to be worn in combination with bino harness and my pack. Currently I am going back and forth between the recon from invader concepts and the kenai from gunfighters inc. I’ve seen some threads going over these products individually but haven’t seen one comparing them directly. They’re both expensive but I feel these might be my best options.

If you have experience with either and or an opinion of a brand I might not be considering please let me know.

I have a gunfighters inc for my glock 20. I love it, but am considering getting a tac rig adapter plate to mount a holster directly to my bino harness. I wear suspenders while hunting, and it ends up being layers of straps over my shoulders when I have my bino harness, holster and backpack on.
I havent totally made up my mind yet on the switch, when we're around camp I'd have to keep my bino harness on to have the pistol with me. Trying to decide if packing my paddle holster for camp duty is worth the slight comfort increase during the day

I have used the Kenai gunfighter a lot. It goes on first then the bino harness on top. That way it’s always on even if the bino harness comes off.

I am not familiar with the recon but looks similar

The first rule is to always have it on! Also I use it a lot without the bino harness like fishing, sitting in a blind, hiking etc.

Thanks for the insight.

I intend on wearing it under the bino harness as well. Does it feel like it’s too much wearing both at the same time? I worry about that.

It’s not too much, especially if you already have a pack on etc don’t notice as much since I’m already in pack mode.

If weight is an issue I carry a G29. Yes it’s noticeable under the bino harness but has not gotten in the way.

I wear a Gunfighters Kenai when I'm not wearing a bino harness. I used to wear the Kenai under my bino harness, but lately, I use the Gunfighters bino link when I'm wearing my binos, except for sheep hunts as I don't carry a pistol at all for that.

I have bought an Invador Concepts chest rig. I have bought to different shells for two different guns. Both shells have been good quality. No complaints for me. Both of those guns have moved on. I get a discount on the Kenai, so I am looking at trying one of those next.

I have the Savage Thread Works Beast Adapter which allows me to put most any holster for any gun directly behind my existing bino hanress.

I already have straps for my pack and my bino hanresss, I didn’t want another layer of straps under my bino harness to have take on and off. Additionally with a stand alone holster/rig, it seems like if you have to a whole ‘nother rig if you want to carry a different gun, which can get expensive.

With the Beast Adapter I can add or remove holsters for different guns and adjust the angle and depth I want the grip sticking out, Additionally, I can easily move the adapter and holster to a different bino harness if I want.

I used the Beast adapter last season with Alien Gear holster for a p365 behind an AGC bino harness and it worked well. It’s pretty versatile.

Had no complaints on the Kenai for a G20. Wore it constantly and it fit well. The wide straps and buckles were easy to manipulate and the form to the G20 had great retention. No comparison to anything else, but it served its purpose well.
