After returning from Colorado and having a successful hunt and after processing my bull elk, I am now realizing I am in need of more freezer space. I would like to purchase a Chest Freezer for our garage but want to get some feedback on what size I should get- trying to decide between a 10.6 Cu Ft and 14.8 Cu Ft. Right now I have a processed CO Bull, #15 pound turkey and #15 ham being stored at a buddies freezer due to lack of freezer space. Besides these items, I will probably add a Whitetail deer and some Walleye and Salmon to the freezer and limit the freezer to just wild game since we do not have much in our kitchen freezer besides some frozen chicken breast and ground turkey/beef. The two models (GE 10.6 Cu Foot and a Maytag 14.8 Cu Foot) I am looking at are on sale at Home Depot right now and I have some HD gift cards to burn up, question is will a 10.6 Cu Foot Chest Freezer be large enough or will I need to get the 14.8 Cu Foot? I will still have the available freezer space in my kitchen Fridge/Freezer if needed so I would not want to get anything larger than the 14.8 Cu Foot but am hoping the 10.6 would be large enough for my needs. Thanks in advance.

One elk bull completely fills one of my 7.0 chests and he wasn't a huge bull. Personally I have two 7' chest and a 5' chest. It spreads out the risk of one going bad and they're lined up as I come in from the garage so I can see the little light on. It also allows me to consolidate and shut down freezers as I clear them out.

I have two freezer full now with a bull a deer and a ton of vegetables from the garden. You can never have too much freezer space. Buy some milk crates and put stuff in ther it help to keep from losing stuff in there. Go big!

Go as big as you can afford and have space for.

I have multiples for the same reason(s) Shrek mentioned. The only thing I did when I built my house was take several outlets in my garage and put them on separate breakers. So if one trips for whatever reason, they don't all go down.

I just picked up a 17.5 and I am glad I spent the extra money on the larger one. I just killed 3 bucks during rifle season and have the extra room to accommodate. It was a crazy set of circumstances but I have the space!

As I assumed most would say- bigger would be better. I will probably bite the extra $100 and get the larger of the two, was trying to save a few bucks since I just purchased a new gun safe today too. Dont think I have ever read anything where someone wished they purchased a smaller freezer. Thanks for the advise thus far.

beetlespin- you must hunt in the southern part of WI- I don't think there are even 3 deer in the northern part of WI anymore!
