Alright you mountain goats. I drew my high country mule deer tag a season earlier than usual so I was more in a strength and PT cycle this spring when draw results came out.

Until I drew the tag in early June I’d been doing at most an hour a week of z2 training (incline treadmill is my go-to). I’ve ramped the Z2 up considerably and almost completely set aside any lifting that isn’t addressing hip/knee strength or upper back issues I’ve had previously. Now that I’m 8 weeks out I’ve just started doing vo2 max and Muscular endurance training sessions once a week. Ideally spaced 3-4 days apart.

A couple questions:
1. How much should I bump the weight for ME sessions? I was able to do 3x9 minutes box step ups at 45lbs with short breaks between sets last week. Should I go up by 10lbs and a minute per? Legs were not too sore, but pretty tired the next day.

2. Does ME training technically fall into the z2 bucket if I get the weight set right?

3. If I need the time to finish correcting a hip issue, what should I give up in exchange for strengthening exercises? Currently I’m 3/4 built back up on my Bulgarian split squats (best diagnostic lift I’ve found for the issue). Those are hard on quads and will cut into effective ME training or any VO2 max workouts I’ve found.
