Cheap truck gun/mountain rifle. Savage 308

Started life as a walmart savage axis 308

Cut barrel to 17.8" and did a homemade crown job

1 1/2 coil on trigger spring cut.

Shortened for end by 2" and LOP by 1/2"

Epoxied in trigger guard to stiffen wrist in stock

Comes with weaver low rings and cheapy 4x28 scope.

Built an bought for an alaskan fishing boat gun. Something to beat on and shoot cheap bear protection sized ammo. Shoots 1 1/2" groups with hornady 150gr whitetail.

I haven't weighed it in test but if I remember it was 6 pounds 2 oz with the scope and really fast to shoulder with that short barrel. Many a tahr and stag and blackbear and sitka blacktail have been shot while fishing up north and way down south with this gun.

I'd say there's been 1500 rounds down the tube.. would be a sweet kid gun loaded up with 130gr ttsx bullets.

That's great to hear it went to good use. It was going to my daughter for her first hunt. I'll just have to move faster next time!
