OK, this one might sound really stupid, but I carry one fairly frequently & use it a lot.

It's a really, really basic 15l backpack that collapses in intrepid & can be carried in a pants or jacket pocket. A lot of times, especially hog hunting, I'll go out with nothing but a knife, gun & bottle of water which is great when I'm covering a bunch of ground, or just popping out for a couple of hours. I can fit a 90 pig in this thing, boned out (about 25-30lb of meat) Is not the most comfortable thing, but it beats the hell out of dragging a whole pig!

This is a great thread.

Today is Jan 16, 2022 and I’m on page 8 of 49 pages, so I'm reading posts from April 2020. That's plenty of time for favorite items (/ in the first eight pages) like Wrangler Outdoor pants or their Swisschill puffy jacket to have changed or not be sold anymore.

Also, in eight pages, I've bookmarked so many items, I'm swamped! Good times.
I use the Wrangler ATG Synthetic Utility Pant. Not sure how it compares to the Outdoor pant, but I like these a lot so far. They are lightweight, and have a higher waist that the Eddie Bauer guide pant, so I’m not norging out when crouched. Got one pair for $26 on Amazon, and another for $28 online at Macy’s.

FYI - I did have to size down in these. I wear a 34x34 in wrangler jeans, Levi’s, and Carhartts, and I wear a 32x34 in the ATGs.

Milkweed to check wind and watch exactly where thermals/swirls are headed. It’s free so if you’re buying something to do that you’re getting screwed.
i have never seen milkweed growing, but do plan on getting a couple pods online to use... i have a milkweed wind checker i use a fair amount, for a little tiny plastic container, it was probably about 10 bucks, so a couple pods will still be quite the savings hack, but not as good as if it grew around here... for normal hunting day to day, i like smoke in a bottle, but always pack the milkweed, because at times, it can be a game changer.... i feel like it's a necessity hunting bear grabbing vantage points and staying behind glass... if the wind is making it anywhere in the direction you plan to see a bear feed out, you are pretty much wasting your time, i have watched bear wind me a LONG ways off, smoke in a bottle doesn't cut it for that type of stuff, but being able to watch milkweed for 150yds tells you a lot more

I shared about this on like page 2 of this thread, but it's just so good I want to share the link! I've used a few different tripod mounts, from 2 different vortex ones and the Swaro UTA mount. I just keep coming back to this! It's flat in the pocket of my pack, lightweight, simple to use, and doesn't require attaching anything permanently to a pair of binoculars. I can run my 10's, 15's, share with friends, and shoot off of it. It's cheap and simple, pick one up! You'll love it I'm sure!

Edit: Price above is as of 1/10/2022.
Thanks! I’ve always liked the bogs version better than the Swarovski but I agree with you just being flat will pack so much easier in the backpacks. Just ordered one

When I went through the dollar-store-reading-glasses stage prior to getting prescription glasses, I ended up with a LOT of these little sleeves the glasses come with. I started using them to keep USB cords sorted in my desk drawer and elsewhere. I use them in my daypack on hunts as well if I'm carrying a charging block.

I just hold the two ends together, fold the cord up, to roughly the correct length and slide it in - leaving the end exposed to I can identify it quickly.

You'd think I wouldn't need so many different cords but between Android phones, and iPad, my DSLR, external HDD, laptop-to-display, etc., I need at least a USB-to:
  • USB-mini
  • USB-C
  • USB-B micro
  • USB-B micro Superspeed
  • USB-B
  • Sony DSLR
  • HDMI
  • Display Port
  • etc.

Such a simple, cheap solution, but man they work! Hope you like it!

IMUSA cup/pot. Works great for a lightweight cook pot. It is 4 inches in diameter. Coupled with a alcohol stove and some aluminum foil for a lid, it works really well. I keep one in my truck cook kit. Costs under $8.

My Kowa spotting scope, the glass clarity is unbelievable for the money I spent, even at the highest setting. Wrangler's Outdoor Gear hiking pants are also a great buy.

I’ve got the ATG fleece lined. Love them!

I've got a couple pair, and I wear them almost everyday in the winter. They are comfortable like sweatpants, but look far better.

I also use them occasionally for deer hunting. They show some wear from busting brush, but have lasted 3 seasons so far.

Picked up a package of these velcro straps. They work great for securing gear to your pack, or strapping gear like crampons together before you put them in your pack, etc...
You can buy 50' uncut rolls of velcro and cut them whatever size you'd like.

I will chime in -
Jessie Kidden softshell pants from amazon were about $30 and I wear them as a mid layer almost all year hunting, and casually in cold wet around town. Would probably hunt in them as an outer layer if they had better pockets. 5 years still going.
And my cheap Khols puffer vest. Solid upgrade to insulation that everyone probably already knew to use.
