In an OTC unit, what's the earliest you've had a conversation with an elk in a hunting setting?

Opening morning the last week of August........a few times. I've gotten elk bugling opening weekend every time I've hunted opening weekend........OTC or draw.

Season opens Sept 1 and closes Oct 25ish where I bow hunt elk. Every day...

I'm looking forward to this coming up Saturday and curious if there will be any sounds to be heard. I plan to put on the miles while making random cow noises. I'm sure I will also throw out those bugles that everyone loves to do in the dark woods, but not expecting a whole lot in return.
