Chat GPT for e scouting

I'm a new deer hunter. I'll be using my custom rifle I built (not new to shooting). I think AI will be the downfall of society. I love the idea of making my first hint easy, but I will pass on the AI thing for my first and likely every hunt after

I take the chat thing with a grain of salt. I tried it out because people were raving about how awesome it was. I asked it some reloading questions. According to chat it said that the current bullet I shoot absolutely will not stabilize in a certain twist barrel. Well that bullet in fact does in my gun and a lot of other rifles that other people have. Small stupid example but it is just to show don’t take everything it says as gospel.

I also think the AI stuff is just regurgitated info that is already online somewhere

The thing with ChatGPT, in it's current form, is that it will get MOST technical things right, but what it does get wrong it will present to you with absolute full confidence.

I've even leaned into wrong answers I spotted to see how long it will hold it's confidence and it will really screw you over if you can't filter the data. Once you call it out it always gives some silly ego stroking answer like "Very astute observation, and you're totally right for calling me out on that."

I use the most powerful AI to help me with analytics at my day job and it sucks. So I wouldn’t get too excited yet.

"Delete this" is a cop-out. While most of us would never consider it as a tool much less admit to using it, like it or not it's here. A purist would shudder at the the thought but others are more open minded. The way I see it you can either debate the effectiveness and ethics or ignore the post.

As proponents of ethical hunting I believe there is a responsibility to address new technologies and trends. Should it be allowed? Is it ethical? Does it provide unfair advantage? Should you shunned like a 6.5 manbun aficionado?

OnX has already severely affected public land use with OnX offroad making "overlanding" so easy for former flannel wearing hipsters of 2013 to become "overland influencers" on instagram. OnX is now offering a free cellphone game camera if you sign up for elite membership right now. You're crazy to think they won't have an AI layer filter that will cross reference all the other layers (tree type, fire history, etc) and give further reference/suggestion of game patterns.

I know that's all disappointing to most, but it's our reality we have to face.

This is factual. As much as I hate it, it’s not going away. We need to try to address it, but also hard to do with the loudest voices constantly crowing about R3, the best way to recruit is to make it easy for people to start and have success. It’s never been easier to do that than today, will AI make it easier? Probably. We will have to square all of it with continuing declining opportunities, and liking declining herd numbers. Not sure what else will happen as success rates climb they will be forced to cut tags, the only way I see combating this is restricting effectiveness of weapons/ making seasons shorter and shorter… bitter pill to swallow. Likely peak hunting in the western U.S. was mid 90’s to 2010 or so…

I feel like this is way more innocent than using trail cameras, specifically cell cams. But that's the way everything seems to be going. Kind of worrisome to think what things will be like in 20 years after the previous 20 years of technologic advances

All downhill after telescopic sights came on the market haha.

The question that needs to be asked is where is the line for all this? Gotta figure that out before guys are out there with auto ranging scopes and tripod fixed rifles that aim, steady, and shoot themselves out to 2 miles.

A few years ago I would have be laughing at this statement, but these days it’s really not a stretch at all, seems like the advent of the “influencer” and success at all cost really makes people forget that it’s a hunt and chase, and that sometimes the animals win and that’s okay. Our technology is so superior and easy to use, we need to put the fair back in fair chase
