I currently hold a Mccall zone Elk archery tag for idaho for 2025.. After e-scouting a unit there I'm worried a little bit about the amount of bike trails all around and afraid will be hard to get into areas away from people or find elk. I have heard that there are elk there just need to find them though.

Would it be better you think applying for a central Montana unit for archery and running into elk there? Maybe less recreational hikers/bikers that area/ more open land for seclusion?

This will be my first solo archery elk hunt.. second week of september. I'm in great cardio shape planning on backpacking a few nights in two different access points if I can plan it depending if find any sign that time of year.

any advice helps thanks!

You already have an Idaho tag. Why even consider doing anything different. Guess what, the elk in Montana…. they are there too, but you also need to find them.

What interests you about MT over ID? Only you could answer the question. Even if you got a tag to be able to hunt the FC or Gospel or the Salmon area you'll be dealing with folks. The elk won't be out of the area, just more elusive if anything.
