Centerfire rifle turkey hunting

I've one turkey with a rifle. Used a .243 and shot it through the wing broadside if that makes sense. Zero damage to the breast or legs and worked very well.

Wish we could use rifles or pistols on turkeys here in Idaho.

I've taken a couple first time turkey hunters in Wyoming out. We used a .223 with a 55 grain soft point, center back facing straight away, lead doesn't make it through the breast plate. Zero breast meat damage on the 10ish we shot that way.

Two turkeys in two years with my 556 Ruger ranch. First was an 80yd frontal shot, dropped on the spot. Second was 236yds, shot at the base of the neck while he was facing away from me. Rolled and was done, never to strut again.

Both were taken with a Hornady Frontier 75gr HPBT.
