Cell Cams in the Backcountry (Aftermarket / High Gain Antennas)

Looking to see if any of you folks have experience with an after market antenna for a cell cam. I run tactacams, and the reveal “Christmas tree” 2.0 antenna did not seem to help much.

I’ve got a great wallow I’d love to have a camera on but it may be too deep in a drainage. Thanks in advance!

From my experience, the new tactacams, with the blended carriers work as good as you could hope. They pick the best service in the area so you don’t have to roll the dice on choosing Verizon or AT&T. Usually have service in places phones barely do or or don’t. 2/3 I run in WA wildernesses get service.

Satellites will soon more commonly offer 5G direct cell to sat. If you have the wallet then, pics will be available from anywhere...

I’m in a similar situation as you. I am going to test run a new Tactacam Pro 3.0 this weekend. If it doesn’t pick up service then I’ll be ordering a directional antenna from Herd360 and trying again next weekend. I’ll report back once I have more info. You should watch the Herd360 video on antennas, he has a lot of good info on his site.

I tried the Herd 360 directional antenna a few years ago and it didn’t really help much if at all. You can spend a lot of time trying to find the right direction for it and once you do the wind can pivot it away later and you are back to square one.

They already have about the best antenna you can get short of installing a directional yagi antenna which you'd need equipment to set up.

Interesting in finding a long range antenna for my solar-flex. Like the OP I got a spot that holds elk but hardly any service. The weird spot is I could get 2 bars on my phone and nothing on the cam???

I have had a couple of the muddy cams and they get good reception where my phone does. Never had a need for another
