Anyone notice a difference between primers. Ive got 100 215s left to reload for my .300 RUM but just picked up a pack of 1000 CCI 250s. Both are large magnum rifle primers but I know primers can make a difference. Found some older info on the web but wondered if anyone has any current experience with CCI's 250 Primers for reloading.

Every gun is different of course, I know my rifles lost a few FPS and slightly different point of impact, not much 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch

Use caution and common sense. You’re making little bombs and it’s always good to remember that. Any time you change a component of a load you should at least half ass work up a new load. You don’t necessarily have to start from scratch. What I’d do here is load 1/2 a box with the new primers:
2 shells with the amount of powder you’re shooting now “x”
2 with x minus .2 grains
2 with x minus .4 grains … etc

go out and chronograph em starting at the lowest, check for pressure signs. Adjust from there.

What I would NOT do is Load ten boxes with new primers before doing some experimentation.

I shot 215’s for a decade then decided to try the 250’s. I loaded up a handful, changed nothing but the primer, went to 600, and shot them. I bought another 2,000.

Typical 215 group at 600

I'll be loading developing from scratch for a custom .300 RUM. I'll definitely plan on just loading all that brass with cci 250s. I can finish off the 215s on my other gun. As long as there aren't horror stories of cci having bad quality control. I was shocked to find them in stock online and it made me wonder if maybe theyre subpar mag primers

I know 215s were designed and demanded to be used in all Weatherbys based off the 378 case

I've used the 250s and Remington 9 1/2 in my .300wm with no noticeable difference between the 2.

When we could get primers, I shot nothing but CCI. Never had any issues with quality.

These days, I use whatever I can get my hands on but definitely do a minor load workup to check for pressure issues.

In my 7mm rem mag loads I generally hit pressure with the 215's about .5 grains of powder less than with cci250. So the Federals are just a tiny bit hotter.
