Cataracts

You bring up a relevant point in healthcare. I elected to have a procedure down to treat bph( benign prostatic hypertrophy) researched options, decided on the option and thought about going to Mayo where the procedure was developed but decided I did not want to have the procedure done by a resident or fellow once I was under anesthesia. Researched the company that produces the equipment for the procedure and found one of their centers of excellence 3 hours from my home and had it done without issue. My wife had spine surgery at Mayo by an attending neurosurgeon, we went there as a son was a medical student there at the time, he later was a chief resident under Harry Flynn at Baskin( why the cataracts were done there).
As I have said in several healthcare threads choose your providers carefully even if you have to travel and it always helps to have inside information.
Another reason as a medicare patient to choose a supplemental coverage option that does not have a restrictive provider panel.
We have spent a lot of time at Mayo. My wife has Stage 4 Colon cancer and I took her there for surgery and treatment. She was just there a few weeks ago. They have been fantastic. She's been cancer free for over 3 years....knock on wood. The Dr who is going to do my surgery at Iowa got her MD from Mayo as well. We travel for medical care when it makes sense to us and like you, we do a lot of research before making decisions.
