So my wife bought me this really nice cashmere scarf like 6 years ago. I think I've worn it twice because its just never cold here and I don't ever dress up. However, it could be nice on our high buck hunt where we routinely get snow, mist, rain...a scarf while glassing, wrap your head at night for sleeping...

Anyone use a scarf? Am I crazy? I already have an overpacking problem but I could see a scarf being well appreciated...

If only we could stash stuff in wilderness areas...I could have quite a cache

Cowboys I know well, the real working type often amaze me with what they'll wear when I've got a wool Tshirt, Sitka traverse w/ hood and a jacket - maybe a wool shirt, maybe a cotton flannel one, always wranglers and ALWAYS a silk scarf - when I worked as a packer and wrangler for an outfitter I quickly learned the value of those scarves (bandanna) I think a nice soft warm Cashmere scarf would be mighty nice to have for whatever you decided you needed it for

Does it have rhinestones? That might spook the animals :D I kid, I kid

I haven't worn a scarf but I've used a shemagh a couple times and like how it can be used for various things. It is nice to have something to keep your neck warm and to keep breezes from going down your shirt.

Or, you "accidentally" lose (sell) the scarf and buy other gear :D

The usefulness of a scarf or shemagh more than makes up for the small weight penalty

But neither will set you apart like an ascot.

If you like it. Pack it. Any of your buddies give you crap, refuse to use it to splint or wrap a leg or arm. Tell 'em to use their duct tape instead.

Truth.

I'm not sure I would take a "nice" scarf with me...especially not one my wife bought me. I doubt she would appreciate you using it as a water pre-filter.

used a silk cowboy style scarf[ cattle kates] when working on rr in Chicago when those -40 windchills howling wind blizzards. surprisingly very warm around the neck, even wrapped around the ears.

My wife knows how I am. If she buys me a scarf I think she would assume that I'm not going to be wearing it to the opera or whatever normal people use a scarf for. Its either sitting in the closet or filtering leeches out of lake water. Take your pick.

both are honorable uses ..... so versatile they are

Haha! No, its a standard grey, looks wool. She bought it for me with a pea coat probably hoping I'd step my game up but neither get used.

It's nothing new. I've never been toasty warm out there and stopped to consider if my attire was pleasing to other men. I HAVE left my scarf, etc behind on accident and bemoaned the wind down my neck, in my face, and so on.

I think it really depends on what purse you're carrying with you that day. You wouldn't want them to clash! :D

All joking aside, anything that keeps my neck warm on a cold day, be it in the mountains or a tree stand, is worth the weight for me. I'd say rock that thing!

I think so long as you never use the word "cashmere" again...go for it. :D

If you ran everywhere so that the trailing end of the scarf fluttered behind you like you were some open cockpit fighter ace...

Remind me to post the Jean-Pilot joke sometime. Too much typing now.
