Well, I’m trying a shouldered prefit for my bighorn origin for the first time. I’m looking to replace a bartlein barrel I’ve shot out chambered in 6.5 prc. I was debating between these two and was likely going to go with a steel barrel if I went pbb. I’m mostly chose these two due to the ability to purchase a shorter length pre-fit barrel. Weight is not much of a concern and I don’t have a preference on materials. Just want to hear your experience with one or the other and what you’d go with if precision is the top priority.

Thanks fellas I appreciate the input!

I’ve not run any profit of any flavor but all of my C6 barrel blanks are hammers, and typically pretty fast.

Good to know, I have actually noticed some people posting specs and builds do tend to list pretty high velocity’s through their C6’s

If you don't care about getting your barrel on any sort of time line, C6 should be fine. Generally they seem to be shooters, but from what I've gathered still over promise on delivery times. I'd expect double whatever they're quoting.

There was a thread somewhere on here a few yrs back that had a litany of complaints against C6. Personally, I bought one in 22 creed that was supposed to be a bull contour. Showed up and was some random custom contour that I didn't want. Was also packed like shit and blew through the box during shipping, was real close to boogering up the crown. They did make it right and give me a bit of a refund. I never finished load development on that gun...was sour that it wasnt what I wanted and got sidetracked with life. TBD if it shoots. Maybe a project for this winter.

I've had two C6 prefits for Zermatt SR3 LA/Origin. 6.5 PRC and 280 Ackley. Both are very accurate with multiple bullets. The 280 AI was purchased directly from C6 (approx 10 month lead time). The 6.5 was a blank chambered by a gunsmith.

Have not tried Preferred, but like you have considered a steel barrel from them.

I’ve got both. Both shoot well. C6 was a mess for the gunsmith to index, but has always been accurate, and it’s light. Between the two I’d still go with a Preferred based on the sample of 1 I have of each.
