Its all new.
New everything.
T4 kit. Injectors. Like 20k under the hood and its a giant un reliable pos.
It it wasn't a family heirloom id burn it to the ground and crush it.

You aren't allowed to say that about power jokers.

At least they never made enough power to break anything, keeping them from catching fire, well that was a different story.

I relocated the center of the valves on this one to allow for a 1.90”diameter without blowing through the seat into a water jacket. Which then required a different rocker… and real power starts happening when 3500psi hpop is achieved… so this one would beg to differ on that.

This is the 5.9 I’m finishing now… has super secret crap just like that 7.3…. It’s all what the customer wants… $ per hp they are both similar*

The rings get seized into the pistons. Usually they burn oil in the rear bank 1 (cylinders 1-3) Swapping for an another engine can be a gamble. All those engines had oil burning problems. These aren’t too bad to re-ring and the dealer probably has most of the parts in Stock. You’re still looking at ~$800 maybe in just parts. Plugs, gaskets, fluids, rings, timing belt, water pump, serp belt etc. not including the cat. I worked as a tech at a Honda dealer for 13 years. And I’ve done a quite few ring jobs on the side at my house w/o a lift since I left. My current ride is an ‘12 MDX that I just bought and rebuilt in sept. Was burning oil so bad it burned the exhaust valves. Depending what you can find for labor prices. I’d swap some new rings in it and drive it for another 75-100k. I’ve seen plenty with over 300k.

Based on the last few years I'd rather my wife continue to beat the shit out of her van instead of having her beat the shit out of a new vehicle
I know the feeling. My wife is hard on vehicles. She’s wrecked every vehicle we’ve ever bought her. Every single one. A couple times it was people hitting her. But, all the others was her hitting the bank, the ditch, the bridge, etc….. I thank the Lord for protecting her.

FWIW, a good JDM motor doesn’t cost much. A mechanic replacing the old motor with it shouldn’t be much versus a used car. My guess is you could get the motor and swap for $3000 bucks. You can’t buy a reliable replacement used car for that.

At that mileage I would grab a cat off Rockauto and have an exhaust shop replace it. Keep an eye on oil level and run until it dies. Save the money you'd spend repairing the oil consumption issue for a down payment on the next vehicle. Spending anything over 40% of the value of a vehicle on repairs isn't generally advisable.

I would gut the cat vs replace it with aftermarket, if its plugged one it will plug another. If it starts burning oil to the point its fouling plugs, then it might be time to give up on it.

If you decide to replace the cat pull the air intake tube, open the butterfly on the throttle body and stick your finger in there and feel along the side. If your finger is coated in oil it has excessive blowby (caused by loose rings). You can install a catch can between the valve cover and the inlet to the throttle body. This won't effect the vehicles emissions controls and will catch the oil vapor before it enters the intake manifold. This will prolong the life of the new catalytic converter and your spark plugs.

After mulling it over and this thread chatter.. I think i'm just gonna drop a new CAT in it. Its got 230K+ miles. We realistically only need it to last minimum 2 more years. We get 2 years on car emissions in my area. If I the van still runs and passes in 2 more years great.. I am bound to emissions controls which is why I'd even fix it. I'll just have to run some additives to help clean the out of the cat at every oil change once i get the new cat installed

Good idea.. Is there a Kit you know of? I actually just replaced in the intake tube becuase the OE was dry rotted and broke when I changed the engine air filter. I have a spray can of BG intake cleaner I'm about to run down the intake

You can find a kit on Amazon and Ebay starting at $25. I'd probably buy on amazon as it is easier to return if it won't fit etc. Most have an optional breather/filter but I would run it sealed without the breather.

How much oil is it consuming, and what oil are you running in it?
Is the cat restricted or just catalyst efficiency codes?

I would start looking at a new/used vehicle right now. You don't want to have it just all the sudden give up the ghost and then be in a big hurry to find something else, and not have the luxury of time to really check a new one out.

Its eating about 2 qts every 2500 miles. The oil burning is why the cat is plugged up and throwing codes
