You want some high adventure eh?

The guide Johan Hermann has some buff charge vids on Youtube...but this one is nuts. The guide was lucky to survive. I was sent this from Facebook...you might need an account to see it.
BUFF Charge

Sorry, but more like low-light reel IMHO. AC/DC, or any other amped-up rock theme set to animals being killed (poorly), on video, in the name of advertising and marketing is THE worst endorsement of our traditions and values I can think of. I have a viscerally disgusted reaction to a staggering, faltering buffalo, stunned after being shot partially in the brain pan via the horns and a bellowing lion needing to be dispatched w/a too-slow coup de grace. I won’t even comment on the elephants.

I’ve been hunting, quite successfully, for over 40 years; so I fully understand that even with the greatest skills and preparations, practice and diligence, willfully taking animals’ lives is often an imperfect endeavor. Many things can and do go wrong, with the best of intentions. I also know that schit happens fast in the African bush, at close quarters, with animals that can kill you back.

I guess I just subscribe to a different ideology that would include honoring the animal, habitat and/or country with many tasteful still photos, to remember the experience with. Yes, I understand that the above is a “Come to Africa w/your giant American checkbook, and you too can get your fill of this pant-schitting action!!”, promo video. I just have no patience for this type of garbage; then again, I’ve never liked the high five-ing, woo-hooing, face paint warrior bros on too many other outdoor productions either…

My commentary isn’t pointed at anyone in particular, least of all @Beendare - you’re not the producer, I understand why you shared it. Been in a reflective and contemplative mindset lately, and futilely hoping some “others” might start some day too.

Many hunters have become more contemplative about life and have stopped certain types of hunting or turned into avid fly fishermen. Nothing wrong with that.

Nonetheless, cool video. I had to look up Cape buffalo anatomy.

I agree with you @NorCal Mixed bag. I was sent the first vid and thought Damn....then I searched and found the second, scratching my head.

I know buff hunts are potentially dangerous, in Australia our assistant guide was plowed, but it seems like maybe this outfitter is either an adrenaline junky or goes looking for it- I dunno?

I don't want to cast any shade on the African professional hunters- they are an esteemed lot that I highly respect. I prefer to think they film alot of these hunts ...and they have poor taste in music.
