Can I add a stud to the power ring on the SWFA 3x9??

I’ve tried the previous version. It was so bad I would not touch it, especially not when the aluminum Monstrum costs less.

Wish I heard your thoughts before I ordered the MKM this morning!

Oh well... for the price, if it's a bust I'll go with the Monstrum and keep the MKM in the "back up" pile.

I had the aluminum mkm lever, which was much lower profile than the 3d printed ones I have. Both are sized for a giant PRS scope though, so the knobs protrude quite far and are out of place on a hunting size scope imo. Super easy to grind either one of them down smaller if the zip-tie approach isnt what you want.

Figured I'd add this in for those considering the MKM throw lever for SWFA 3-9x42, as I just got mine. Not very impressed to be honest, and I like some other MKM products. Couldn't get it to properly function. Overall, it has a "my nephew has a 3d printer" level of quality and feel. I see they do make newer versions now, but can't comment on those. They might be great, albeit double the price of this or the Monstrum.

I tried every possible position and configuration but could not get this thing to tighten properly. I could be doing something wrong, but I don't think so. At its tightest, it still rotates around the scope body. I made sure the "nubs" were aligned with the indents/channels of the magnification ring. Off of the scope, the little screw would snug down and seat, fully tightened. Around the magnification ring, the screw would get tight-ish, then just spin. I tried with/without the small washer, and even tried running the screw through from the other side.

I do have an email in to MKM, but probably will just order the Monstrum mentioned earlier in this thread and return this one. I guess for $16 I shouldn't have expected much but it is definitely underwhelming.

Also, as @Macintosh mentioned, it's huge. One could certainly grind it down quite a bit, but if I wanted a half ass solution I would've stuck with the large zip tie.

Add me to the list. I got one a few years ago and it doesn't index due to my diopter placement and feels like something my buddy's nephew could have made me. Highly under impressed.

Ive had 3 or 4 mkm levers, as of 6 or 8 years ago when I got them they were the only option I could find. First one was aluminum. Its WAY nicer, and lower profile (lever is still quite long but its way less chonky). I’d post a photo but I sold the scope with it attached. I’d buy another one of them today if I was in the market. The 3d printed ones are really chunky for sure, and the finished surface has that cheap-looking 3-d printed texture. But mine have all functioned fine—that one above sounds like whatever is in there to hold the thread screws stripped out. Id think they'd just send you a replacement. In any case, they arent out of place on a 30x scope sitting on a 20lb PRS rifle, but yeah, on a 3-9 or whatever it looks gargantuan.

Yeah, I ended up grinding down a couple of them as much as I could without compromising their integrity. They’re still way too large.

Someone recently posted that an M4 thread will fit it. I need to try it; $35 a pop will add up for me on throw levers.

Still didn’t see if anyone tried a screw yet. I bought the monstrum cheap one and it’s someone functional, just don’t like the idea of cranking it tight enough to make it hold and those sticky pads are janky. Going to try some screws or maybe that zip tie or ranger band idea.

Anyone try these? $60 is quite the price.

Looks like swfa has some too but out of stock which probably means winter of 2028.

I used to use the aadmount ones on various scopes but just dont like levers. I do like a stud. Using ranger bands for now and its fine. I dont change magnification that much anyway

OP, I know this is an old thread, but in case anyone is wondering. I spoke with SWFA on the phone and they said absolutely do not mess with the screw. It is some type of calibration screw that is set at the factory.

As for the throw lever, I tried the 42mm monstrum and although it seemed snug, it kept working itself loose with use. I put a ranger band underneath the monstrum and tightened it down. It is very snug now and is not working itself loose. I can’t say yet about long term, if it will tear the rubber band or if the screw is strong enough over time. It’s on there really tight.
