Do you all camp closer to a peak or closer to a meadow when setting up camp during your elk hunt. I am curious where everyone camps in order to play the thermals and elk movements during the early morning hours. Any tips on this any how to execute a hunters early mornings movements would be appreciated. Thanks all in advance.

I like to camp as high as I can without having to carry water up to camp. Prefer to start higher for glassing in the morning unless I know where the elk are.

Possibly something to consider, if you are a flatlander like me and the altitude is kicking your butt, camp low so that your body can recover a little while sleeping at the lower elevation. Then you can gain altitude from camp as you head out to hunt. I know this might not be exactly what you are asking about but it might be something to consider when making your decision.

Either or both depending where the elk and water are located. Water is the first consideration location of the elk is second. Don't want to camp in the middle of them but also want to minimize the distance and effort it takes every morning to begin hunting.
