Hi. I'm going to the Wrangler Mountains in September. I'd like to buy a nice video camera to record my hunt for my kids. I'll use it for other things as well, i.e. whitetail hunting. I like the idea of a high-quality camera with good video capability and a high-power zoom. I also would like the camera to be fairly light weight since we'll be flying in on a cub plane weight is going to be very important. Recommendations?

what's your budget? Panasonic HC series, Sony Handycam are 5 or 6 hundred and will record good footage with image stabilization. If you want professional grade probably $2000+. You can find cheaper too if desired.

I was thinking around $1000 - $1500

lots of really good options for that price range.

Canon Vixia HF G70 $1250 (easiest to run of these three options)
Panasonic HC-x1200 ($1300 new release and might not be available quite yet)
Panasonic HC-X1500 (currently on sale for $1500 at BH Photo)

I don't have experience with this grade of camera, but they have a lot more buttons than the sub $1000 cameras.

Panasonic HC-VX981 and Sony FDR-AX43A are point and shoot auto functioning type cameras for $8-$900.

They all shoot 4k with 20-24x full resolution zoom, then can digital zoom to 40x but you'll start losing clarity in the digital zoom range.
