I've seen many like that over the years.
Back in the '70s, I use to mount my SLR with 400mm lens the same way, with a shutter trip cable at the trigger location.

Bank in the 70's a Game Warden friend of mine had a rifle stock that he cut down the forearm so it would fit his spotting scope. Worked pretty sweet as I remember.

I know a guy that finds more sheds than anybody and he rides around on his horse with a straight spotter on a stock. Obviously works well for him.

What’s the purpose or utility of having a spotter on a stock? Does it just make it easier/quicker to pull the spotter out while also being able to stabilize it a little better than holding it in your hands?

Yes, for a quick look it works great ....

You'll get no argument from me on the spotter ........ but the stock is nicer than most....

It is just a cheap painted ruger UL plastic take off stock. I replaced it with walnut.
