Do you guys ever have game calls that seem to gum up and not want to work? I bought a wolf call (Bugling Bull Alpha Howler) and took it to the mountains this past weekend. Occasionally it wouldn't make any noise or I'd get a 'goose' honk out of it...regardless of the air pressure I used.

Any ideas on how to prevent this? I haven't used it at all after eating (learned that lesson with duck calls as a kid). Temperatures were well above freezing and I tried to get my spit off the reeds a few times but it didn't seem to matter. Sometimes it would work and sound great, other times I'd be dead in the water while using the same techniques.

Sounds like the reed is sticking to the roof of your mouth or to the call. Sometimes adjusting the angle at which you're putting the call in your mouth can remedy this. For a wolf call I really like the one E.L.K. makes. It's a rubber diaphragm instead of a reed. It takes a little more practice but once you get it mastered it performs flawlessly winter or summer. I've had whole packs respond to this call.

Thanks guys. I'll try adjusting the angle a bit to see if that works. Thanks for the recommendation on the E.L.K. call also, I'll check it out!
