Calling Coons

I didn’t know that raccoons would respond to calls. That’s pretty cool and your son is into it. I may try that with my son. Love the spider man mask.

We run Lucky Duck calls we have two. The cheaper smaller one works great for coons. It only has one coon call in it. But it works well.

Recently discovered a couple videos of this as well and I’ve got to try it! I can’t believe how hard coons come to the call at point blank range.

Congrats to you and the boy! The spidey mask is something my girls would want to wear on a hunt too lol.

Years ago on a mild March day while calling coyotes in Wisconsin, I called in a big boar. Never intentionally went to try for raccoons after that, didn't think much of it other than it was a fluke, but they're hungry like all the other predators.

Good luck to your boy!

Is the call aggressive? I'll check out what's preloaded on my FX24 later.

I got one that was walking down my barn road that was about 200 yards away from me to turn around and come to a high pitched mouth call the other night.

My neighbor has a den tree I can see them in when I night hike.

I'll try to call them over.

It's about 100 yards in from the line.

I’ve had one come in to a rabbit call while coyote hunting. Came hauling ass about 250 yards across a pasture from the creek all the up to the call. I might have to start trying to call them.

Is the sound you use an aggressive fighting sound or what?

Coon distress, sounds like two coons fighting. I’ve used rabbit distress or bird distress too. Sometimes they come down looking to fight, other times just pop their heads out.

start with the coon pup distress sounds before moving to the more aggressive sounds. Even then be ready to shoot because some will hit the ground and run away from the caller vs run it over. They either come out right away or not, so 5-7 min stands. I have better luck being within 50 yards of the dens.
