I've done a lot of calling and not very successfully however, have killed a number of yotes and fox. My next outing will be in the snow hoping for bear and bobcat. Any recommendation on which call(s) to use. I would normally try bird calls for the cats but think lightning jack or something would be better for both species. Anyone got any experience with calling bears in successfully? These would be black bears.

I'm in the same area as you and have never called in a bear in our part of the state. Have tried calling in bears with fawn in distress from 400+ yards to try and get them to come into range and it didn't work. Once in the central sierra, once in D11 and both bears seemed to not be interested as I watched them and continually called. I did stop a bear two seasons ago in the southern sierra with a fawn in distress call but was archery hunting and he didn't stop for long, I'd already bumped him and was surprised he even stopped. Would have been enough for a rifle shot for sure, on that one I was inside of 100 yards. That said, I'll still keep trying. The only bear I've ever called in was with a cow elk call in Idaho, may have just been a coincidence but he came right at me in some timber to about 60 yards probably just wanting to investigate. Not sure where you're headed but the bears are still out and about in the local mtns, seeing lots of fresh sign while out trying to fill my A31 tag, those bears pretty much never hibernate. With this mild start to winter I'm sure a lot of bears in the southern Sierra are still out and about.
