Caliber Options: International Do It All Short Barreled Magnum

Not at all. You will be much better with a reliable rifle that you brought. My guide in Kygyzstan brought his wolf rifle- some early 20th century military bolt gun- and i think the scope was held in place with bailing wire. His gun was the only non-hunter rifle in camp.

That is very good to know!

Coin is all relative I guess. I am as middle class as they come. I only own one hunting rifle- instead of buying more guns/gear I put that money in to hunts i can afford overseas. Most ibex/goat hunts overseas are cheaper than an elk hunt in the US. Rebarrelling costs me time. Also having a barrel shitting the bed right before season isnt confidence building.
Well then..
You better just chamber in whatever is available in Kygyzstan or whichever Stan you're hunting in

Stay with 300wm. Use a Rhian Manthis reamer to chamber your new barrel, shoot 215 Bergers using VV N570 powder and I bet you can still hit 2950-3000 fps with a 22 inch barrel.

He is mag restricted to saami length.

that’s also speeds people are getting with a 28” barrel with that reamer

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned the .338 Win Mag. With "International" in the title, that's one I would definitely look into. Bullet options from 180 up to 300 grains, not much that a 225 or 250 won't kill with authority out to 600. Doesn't need a 26" barrel to achieve good speeds either.

I run mine right to mag length on HS Precision DBM. Still getting 3100 fps out of my 26" Proof barrel.
With 215's ??
What's mag length for you, is it saami?
I'm getting 3020 from a 27" barrel using N570 in my 300 PRC, and it's throated correctly for the 215.

Yes I am shooting 215s.

I cant recall right off the top of my head the COL but it is .010 short of the HS Precision mag length.

I used the Rhian Manthis reamer that is so widely talked abt by Broz. The way I understand it, it was designed to shoot the 215s and has a lot of freebore. I tried several different brands of brass and the case capacity of the 300wm brass across brands is crazy different. I ended up settling on ADG brass which had great velocity (3094) and showed zero signs of pressure. The Nosler was fastest(3123) but I was gertting a shiny ejector wipe with it and a slightly stiff bolt.

Yeah, those are some lofty speeds for 215s in a win mag. Bolt lift got pretty stiff for me @ 3100 FPS this past weekend with RL26 and 200.20x in a 26" barrel with norma brass.

Probably stick to the .300WM or a .300WSM

I have a .300WSM for more or less this use, my main client gun.

21" barrel and I can get 3000FPS with 180gners, which is plenty

A WSM will probably be better in shorter barrel, but might be a bit harder to find ammo.

Can I ask what animal you hunt that a 180g bullet or under wont kill? I personally own and hunt with a 17in howa 1500 300wm and a tikka t3 18in 300wsm. I run factory ammo and every animal I shoot dies in under 50yrds. I hunt and live in Alaska. 20-22in barrel isn't short imo its actually standard. Btw the 17in 300wm with a .300 black out muzzle brake kicks like my daughters 7mm-08.
