Cali C zone G1

Anybody have experience/insight on California c4 zone G1 rifle tag? What’s the Deer quality/quantity like? Deer movements that late in the season?
Any insight is appreciated!

I'd recommend that in your information search you look up the footprint of last years Park Fire and compare it to the zone footprint, C4 got hit hard. This winter has been a dry one and without more rain I don't think it's going support a strong regrowth in the spring. With that said G1 is largely a migration hunt so you need weather up high to get the deer to move lower through the zone. If we get a strong late September or early October snowstorm it would bode well for G1. This year we didn't see any significant snow until December.

My friend who I’ll be hunting with lives near Lake Almanor and he’s said the same thing about the winter. When the deer migrate do they all leave the high country or do some of the older bucks hang around up high? Also if the burn is holding deer are they going to be starting to rut? Thanks!

The herd in this zone all migrate, not just due to weather but also for the rut. The earliest deer start migrating in this area is the end of August. Most start their migration around the third week of September. Weather just gets the animals moving faster.
