Anyone on here have the cableas westwind tent ? And if so would it be heavy duty enough for Alaska ? We are doing a drop camp hunt early September.

I have one. I have not hunted Alaska. I have used it twice in CA in the last 6 years, bot times during our biggest storms hunting hogs along the coast. Winds 50+ (not sustained) and 6-8" of rain in two days. How that compares to Alaska, I don't know.

The tent held up well. It must be set up perfectly as the space/distance between the tent and the rain fly, is not that much. With some sustained heavy winds with extreme rain we had some water get in the tent. It leaked down the pole and dropped through the top mesh. We had two small amounts of water, one on each side of the tent. Nothing a towel couldn't soak up. Once I re-tied everything down correctly, it was not a problem. I also used the vestibule and had it facing the direction of the rain/wind because the other door side is wide open. The vestibule is a pain in the butt to get attached.

If I was going to hunt Alaska with the potential of heavy rains/winds and it was a drop off I would use the Cabelas Alaskan tent, as the westwind is just not as strong, IMO. I have had my Alaskan tent in CA last three biggest rain storms (going back like 7 or 8 years). It has held up to everything, no problems at all.

Thanks for the reply, do you have the 4 man or 6 man westwind ? There are just 2 of us going but wandering if we should go with the 6 man tent

I have the 6 man west wind and the 8 man Alaskan.

2 people and all of your gear plus room for wet stuff, cooking, etc I would go bigger everytime. but that is just me.

I have the 8 man west wind that I use for family camping trips. It's huge and I haven't had any trouble with it standing up to rain and wind. Went through a thunderstorm with it this past fall and the family was comfortable and dry the entire day and night. Wind gusts up to 30 mph didn't even phase it. Not sure it would work on a drop-in though as it's extremely heavy. 40+ pounds if I recall correctly.
