I tried both of these on at the store last week and i couldn't tell much difference outside of the improved water resistant zipper on the Ultra-Pack. I was in a hurry so I didn't do a lot of side by side comparisons.

I bought the Space rain jacket and took it home and it weighed 12.9oz which is way more than I thought it would.

The Cabelas website says the Instinct Ultra pack weighs 7.2 oz. It's hard to see how it could be so much lighter with what I assume is a heavier zipper? Does anyone have any experience with these jackets? I'm considering taking the Space Rain back and picking up the Instinct Ultra-Pack.

Any other recommendations for a decently priced packable rain jacket? I'm upgrading from a set of Core 4 element torrent jacket and pants that works well but is 19oz per piece (top and bottom) and the soft face fabric picks up moisture and it gets even heavier. It is water proof and quiet so I will continue using it when I'm not having to pack it around.

I just picked up a pair of OR helium HD pants in Coyote on massdrop. I believe they were said to be under 6oz, but it will probably be a while till I get those. (Massdrop is pretty cool, but not fast)

I have the space rain. I've packed it around more than used it. Used once in light summer rain hiking down from 11k. Used a few times in heavy wet snow. No issues. I wouldn't use it if you need it to hold up to a lot of abuse.
