Hello,

I am a recent California refugee who sought freedom in Idaho. Grew up fishing and camping but have zero hunting experience. Really want to get into Elk and Upland hunting.

Welcome! I hunted Idaho for the first time back in October, beautiful state. We were mule deer hunting but saw lots of grouse. Hope to go back one day for an upland hunt

I’m dying to get out and explore/hunt the state. If you don’t mind me asking, what unit were you in that you saw a lot of grouse?

As the self-appointed chairman of the welcoming committee, it is my privilege to extend a laurel, and hearty handshake (virtual, of course) to our new ID member.

My advice is to make sure you trade your California plates in for Idaho plates as soon as possible. A cheesy Idahome or Idaho- No Vacancy bumper sticker might be worth a look as well. When someone asks you where you are from, I would lie or practice telling the truth without looking down at the floor like a dog that pooped all over the rug when their master gets home.

Late to the party on this one. I'll be heading through Idaho from Washington to visit family in October. At this point, I can go earlier in the month or later in the month...right after regular deer season kicks off (10/10).

Modern rifle deer season in eastern Washington is a sea of orange vests where I'd be looking for grouse so I stay out of the forest for those two weeks.

Is it the same in Idaho?

I have some flexibility in my schedule and would like to avoid chasing blue grouse with my dog and messing up someone's deer hunt.

I'm still trying to sort out places to check out but will primarily traveling along I-95 Spokane <--> Boise.
