I bought a CA Mesa in 6.5 PRC earlier this year to be my go to deer / antelope gun. It shoots fantastic, putting three shots consistently sub 0.5 MOA and much smaller when I actually do my part.

I love almost everything about this rifle but the weight came in at 7# 11oz, with the stock making up 41 of those ounces.

With all the stocks available it seems that it should be fairly easy to drop the overall weight under 7# by replacing it with a stock 30 oz or less.

Who out there has replaced their CA Mesa stock? What did you go with and would you recommend it?

A McMillan edge Sporter should fit nicely. You might have to notch for the bolt release and maybe open up the barrel channel slightly. Most SA edge stocks will come in under 30 oz after bedding. Keep an eye on the classifieds here and 24hr Campfire and I bet you’ll find a used stock pretty quick.

Mesa Precision Altitude stock. I have one on my ridgeline and love it. Full target stock feel at 24-27oz. I had to file a notch out for the bolt release but very minor fitting all things considered.

Thanks for the responses! I saw a proof research mountain hunter pop up on the classifieds (in the color and action length I wanted).

Decided to give that one a go for now

They’re light for sure. Mine was 19 oz. post up a picture when you get it mounted. I’m interested to see how the barrel fits in the channel.

Channel is to big and I will need to notch it out for the bolt release...however I will probably leave it with a giant free float for now and swap out the barrel for a proof sendero next year. If it looks to bad than I will have my local gunsmith fill it in with epoxy.
