I have hunter A17 before and found success but hated the amount of people in the area I was in. I’m looking to do the hunt again but will be backpacking in, in the hopes of getting into the backcountry and away from people.

Due to the remoteness I plan on going scouting will be limited but was wondering if anyone has backcountry recommendations. I don’t want anyone’s exact spot but anyone familiar with the zone knows their are dozens of routes you can travel. Just hoping to narrow it down a bit.

lots of roads in cali. Not many places you can backpack into with tons of people around. d6 has like 11k tags alone. Hiking in only area are your best bet. desolation wilderness is a good spot for backpacking and remotness

Many places that you can backpack into in A17 that will get you both away from roads and people. The spots will be straight up and you will be hunting the bowls that sit on the crest. Pick on that has water and give it a go. Lots of deer in there but you better be serious about hiking in if you want to get away from people. From where we park the truck to camp is about 3hrs straight up with no trail

Yeah that’s about what i’m planning on right now, about 6-7k feet of elevation gain of and equal or less amount of miles.
