Buying/Selling Best Practices

Theres plenty of info on a check for a guy to screw with you if he wanted to....

I do like MO's though.
Also a new guy...mainly a lurker but the classifieds got me to join as I look at barrels...

...but checks are probably the worst. That check has your bank account number on it which links directly to YOUR bank account. Not obscured by any other service in between. If you do go the check route (anywhere) be sure you're looking at your statements regularly and maybe consider a secondary account to provide some insulation.

Cashiers check. I have one account and transfer money to it when I use it. My theory is if someone tries to hack it they get $50.00 minimum balance. Don't know if it is a sound theory, but I'm not a hacker so it works for me. MO are ok, but if someone does not come through your out the cash. Had it happen 10 years ago for $900, postal inspectors said tough, bigger fish to fry. Local cops on the bad end said the same.

One additional thing, don’t bump all your overpriced stuff that isn’t getting any interest or selling at once like the guy that has 9 things in a row on the first page. Don’t push other sellers stuff to page 2.

I am also interested in selling a scope maybe 2. Waiting on a workmans comp claim and need some money to get back on top. Its not critical but I like to have a little buffer in available funds for bills just in case situation. What classifieds would be the best to post a scope(s) for sale? I have sold ammo in the past when there was an ammo shortage in CO and prices were sky high and I had a healthy back stock of ammo so I was helping hunters in need before season without the store price gouging.

Be respectful of the buyers time. Don’t get complacent about shipping and communication right after receiving the money. Sometimes the unexpected happens and some members are in a line of work they can’t control. What I’m seeing a lot of lately is poor excuses while myself and the buyer have seen a seller log in a few times yet neglect to respond to any messages.
