I'm looking at the Leupold vx-2: $280, Nikon Prostaff 5: $240, Vortex Diamondback HP: $259 and I really like the Cabelas/meopta Euro Instinct but it's $350 so definitely at the high end for me. Prices are with friends and family discount at Cabelas. I'm going after work today. I've looked through all but the Vortex and the Leupold and Nikon seem about the same, the Cabelas/Meopta is obviously a step up. Does anyone think the Vortex is better optically than the other 2 in that range? Thanks!

I've owned all of those brands in that price range, and I'd go with Leupold. For me Leupolds have the best compromise of everything. Great glass, bomb proof, and made in USA. Nikon has good glass also and I've never had a problem with one, but I don't like any of their recticles.

Personally, I'm yet to look through a Vortex that I thought even had equivalent glass when staying in a certain price range. Everyone always says, "Vortex has the best warranty!". You don't hear "Vortex has the best glass!" very often. Maybe my eyes just don't like Vortex glass, but I'm yet to be impressed with their scopes.

Not sure of the vortex warranty, never had to use it, but the leupols cs and warranty have been good to me and some of my pals. Allways remember the friend who watched his brand new rifle and scopes slide off a mountain hillside and snap his leupold clean in half, was replaced no charge even with the reason it was returned.

Warren, looking forward to hearing how the Leupold performs. I ordered the Vortex on Friday I'll let you know what I think about it. I'm a long time Leupold user and love their products, just trying something different for now.

Thanks, I'll definitely post a follow up. It's too damn hot in KY right now to shoot much.

I agree!! Love the VX-2s given their weight price and quality has always been more than good enough for the hunting I do atleast.
