Looking for to acquire a lightweight backpack hunting rifle, mainly for mule deer hunting. I already have a great 7mag, but it weighs 8 and 1/2 lb fully loaded and I figure I can always use another rifle.

I've been looking hard at Tikka; either have a 6.5 PRC built or get an off the shelf 6.5 creedmoor.

The other option is the Christensen's Arms Mesa in 6.5 PRC. Seems like a lot of gun for the money and fits my requirements. I know they've had accuracy if in the past but those are mostly resolved I'm assuming.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Can’t speak for the Mesa but just mounted a ZEISS conquest HD5 2x10 x42 on a TI ridgeline in 6.5 PRC weight is 7#7oz. Was only able to send 6 rounds down the tube before thunderstorms sent us packing. First three to get zeroed next three about 3/4 group not much to go on will know more next weekend.serch for mesa’s they have had real problems coming in way over weight

Assuming you have seen below thread on mesa ti weights (from here) but it's below. That would be enough to sway me away from that option.

I own a tikka and think it would be an awesome candidate for PRC and anything but the longest long actions with it's one action length. I think this would save money over the CA as well depending how you built it out (mag action $500(selling stock and barrel), steel flutted prefit $500, nice stock $500 and your at $1500ish).

Just my 2 cents.
