I had the same thing happen on my BD carbons. It definitely puts alot of stress on them. Good news is BD has good customer service..

I have since switched to Leki cork aluminum poles.. I'm scared to try it again though!

I went ahead and took a series of close-up photos showing the different ways, three different manufacturers, make their shelters. I have a Mountain Laurel Designs SoloMid, Hyperlight Mountain Gear Ultimid 4 and a Locus Gear Hapi Mid.

The zipper on the MLD with a storm flap, mid level double snap safety closure and at the bottom of the door is both a safety buckle and snap closure.

The cone/tip that is the lightest weight (presumably least durable), of all three shelters. Also, there is no bug screen covering the ventilation window.

Here is a seam that appears to just be taped as there is no stitching, and a middle panel guy out.

And then finally, a perimeter guy out.

Here is the same series of photos on the HMG Ultimid 4.
Zipper with hood but no storm flap.

Bottom of door with snap safety closure.

Seams are double stitched and taped.

Cone is super heavy duty and two vents both with bug screen and Velcro window closures.

Middle panel guy out.

Perimeter guy out.

The same series of photos with the Locus Gear Hapi.
Like on the HMG, the Locus Gear also has a hood for the zipper but no storm flap. Also two middle zipper guy outs.

Bottom of door with no additional safety closures.

Seamless bonding that also appears to maybe be taped, although it's very hard to tell because I can't find any tape edges.

Cone appears to be heavier duty than the MLD but definitely not as heavy duty as the HMG. This shelter also has 1 bug screen vent.

All three of these shelters are a little different sizes, the MLD is the smallest, the LG in the middle, and the HMG being the largest. I would assume that all the pyramid shelters that these three companies make, regardless of size, are made the same, but I don't know that for a fact.
