Looking to buy first tikka t3x to build off of. Currently can’t decide if I buy 6.5cm or .243. Will eventually re-barrel to 6mm but not until barrel shot out. I do hand load also. The .243 I can’t confirm through dealer if it’s a 1:8 or 1:10 is my only hiccup with that rifle

The 8 twist will be stamped on the barrel clear as day. If it’s not stamped it’s not an 8 twist.

Both of those cartridges are great.

In theory the 243 barrel will be shot out sooner, could be good or bad depending on how quickly you want to change the barrel. As far as reloading cost and component availability I'd consider them equal.

Could also have the stock barrel set back and chambered in whatever 6mm cartridge you'd prefer. But I would be hesitant to mess with it unless it's 1:8 depending on which bullet(s) you want to shoot.

A factory 243 throat/lands may not give you much room to seat out the heavier 6mm bullets. Id probably go 6.5 as there will be more offerings in quality brass.

Not sure why you would want to spend $3,000 on ammo to shoot out the barrel in a caliber you don’t want right now.

Get the cheapest action with the bolt face you need. Buy a prefit barrel in the caliber you want. Enjoy!

I don’t doubt it is, I just know they used to make
I’m pretty sure my t3 lite .243 Win is 1:8. I can double check after work if you’d like.
em with 1:10. The website I’m buying from says they aren’t sure what twist rate it will be and I need r contact tikka. Some websites have same sku but list 1:10 twist.

That’s crap. Why wouldn’t they publish it when advertising the damn thing?

Not sure but it isn't simple to track down after the fact either, so I hope OP confirms with the store before they buy.

Oddly enough, the tikka I got from eurooptic was not on tikka's website either..and anything similar to it was a different barrel length..so couldnt' rely on that either.

I’d get the 243 because it recoils less and you can get factory loaded light bullets.

I think you’d be crazy to sell a Tikka and buy a Ruger... but if you do I’d be interested in the Tikka.

I’d go 6.5 Creedmoor cause you know it will be a 1:8 twist. Barrel life will be double on the 6.5 CM and it will likely be very accurate.
