This is a field evaluation of the Bushnell Match Pro ED 5-30x56mm with Deploy 2 mil reticle. This scope was sent to Ryan Avery for an evaluation by Bushnell. The ammunition used was Hornady Black 155gr AMAX personably purchased by Ryan. 2x10 round groups with it at 100 yards were 1.3 and 1.4 inch.

The scope and weight:

Are pull up/push down locking with 10 mil per rev, zero stopped and revolution indicated with a pop up pin for elevation.

Reticle:

The Deploy 2 mil illuminated reticle is one of the standard type .2 mil per increment tree reticles. The thick outer posts are spaced 11 mils from center on windage, and 21 mils on bottom.

This is one of the standard, feature rich China made PRS/NRL scopes that are so common now. More specifically it seems to be aimed at .22 matches.

Zeroing:

Mounting per standard- 18 in-lbs on ring caps, 65 in-lbs on base screw.

Boresighted, fired 3 rounds, used reticle to read the correction, fired remaining 7 rounds at top left dot. Made a correction, and first shot was low and left. The next five moved back to the dot. No explanation for the wild first shot. It is possible that the bullet hit grass, though I did not notice any. Made a right .1 mil adjustment and went to drop eval.

Drop Evaluation RTZ and “Tracking”

For an explanation see- Scope Field Eval Explanation and Standards

The “test” consists of three 18” drops on a mat- one left/right/top with a shot to check zero after each drop. Then the exact same thing repeated from 36”. Then three drops on all three sides for nine drops on the last part- 15 drops total. This is not “abuse”. The 18” drops are a joke really. The 36” start showing something. And when a scope make/model consistently goes through the whole thing without losing zero, failures in actual use are almost unheard of.

This one was conducted on semi loose soil.

Fired a confirmer shot prior to dropping (shot #), 18” left max right drops (shots #2 and 3) held zero, 18” top drop shifted up .5 mil and right .3 mils. The 36” left, right, and top drops all shifted and are the ones closer to the dot. The 3x3 36” drops shifted 1.6 mils high and left .5 mils.

Went back to the zero target to confirm. Aimed at the bottom left dot. Rounds were hitting .4’ish mils high and .8 to 1 mil left. Group was over 3 inches. Made the down .4, and right .8 mil adjustment. Fired one round at the same dot. It was still high and left. Went to bottom center dot. Fired two rounds which were left .5’ish mils. Made the adjustment and shot 5 more. Those were right .4 mils. Adjusted left .4 mils, and for two on the bottom right dot.

That’s where it was left.

Conclusions:

The scope is not a western hunting scope. It is a PRS/NRL scope and seems to be aimed primarily for .22 LR rifles. I am not sure why they sent this scope to be evaluated.
It performed as expected- failed the drop eval, and seems that the erector is broken. It was left on the rifle and we will see what it does over the next few days.
