This is a brand new tikka that I just pulled the barrel on and noticed a burr on the bolt lug and well on the surface that the bolt seats against inside the receiver. Can’t imagine this will shoot well like it is? This is for a new build and barrel won’t be here till marchish. I can feel the burr mostly on the bolt but can feel a bit of one also on the faces within the receiver. I used a sharpie on both the bolt and surface so see contact. There is very little contact on the lug that doesn’t have the burr. What is the best course of action here ?attched are some photos the best I could get with the camera on my phone

Wow, someone really galled that action. Is that factory new, or just new to you?

You could fix it by remachining the abutments & the bolt, but my guess is you’ll remove so much material off both faces that your primary extraction will be weak & your headspace will probably not come out right for any future pre-fit barrels.

Factory new. Bought it from EuroOptic as a donor. Pretty disappointed. My first thought was to Lapp the lugs but then I get concerned about it headspacing with prefit.

Wow, that’s definitely an anomaly. The lugs normally barely even need lapped. I would go straight to Tikka with that.
Haha. Only I would have this. But I thought about going to beretta but wonder how responsive CS is and what turn around time would be. Also thought about EO but I don’t feel like it’s their problem either but I suspect they would be more responsive

I wouldn’t even bother with EO. It’s a QC issue. I’m sure Beretta will make it right quickly. There may have been others like this made at the same time and are probably already aware of it.

I would probably phrase it in different terms… maybe “I noticed a defect in the bolt lugs and I was concerned about the safety of using the firearm, so I had a qualified gunsmith remove the barrel to inspect the abutments. We aren’t sure if the defects go all the way through the lugs or abutments. Is this gun safe to shoot?”

Agreed - probably better to phrase it that way.

Curious, wasn’t operation of the bolt really rough? Could you tell there was a problem with it before you pulled the barrel?

No. Was not rough. Wouldn’t have know other than just the visual scar then upon investigating I can feel the burr with a pick. If I take out the firing pin assembly and and push the bolt as I rotate it still doesn’t feel like it’s dragging. The burr appears to be on the lug and the abutment has the scar. I have to assume it was from the factory but who knows. I’ve cycled the bolt plenty and never noticed till I saw it
