bumping deer when entering and considering thermal

It is okay and sometimes better to just go in later so you don't bump the deer. Or go in way earlier. You have to figure out of this is primary bedding(think daytime) or secondary( think nighttime feeding). Your route is going to have a lot to do with the way the WMA lays out. This may just be an evening hunting spot. It might not be worth even hunting the mornings on this piece of ground. All things to consider anyway

I have hunted several properties soley in the bedding area with limited/poor access. I typically save this stand locations for all day sits to limit exposure. What I have found out that works for me is a green headlamp. They do not spook as bad and many times let you walk on by. Couple this with getting in really early - 3 hours before shooting light has been effective.

As already mentioned, binoculars are very good in thick stuff. You get to confirm with some confidence that the next xxx yards should be clear of deer. Then move 5-10 yards forward and scan again.
I consider it for final approach distance during bow season and good still hunting technique during gun season.
