Bullet choice in 7mm-08 for elk

I am in Montana hoping to drop my first elk this year. No bull tag just looking to fill the freezer with a cow. I am running a T3X in 7mm-08 that I picked up in the off season. I have a nice load worked up with the 162gr ELD-X, figured I’d go with a heavier bullet on account of the wind we get out here and the size of the animal.

Worked up a 0.45”MOA, single-digit SD load. Clocked at ~2,600fps out of a 22” tube with Varget. Thought I was done.

However was prowling se forums and saw a lot of chatter that this round can destroy a lot of meat. I think they were talking more about magnum velocities, as this bullet is typically more of a 7mag bullet, but nonetheless thought it might be something to consider.

Would you guys be good taking this load out for cow elk? Trying to keep shots inside of 300 with 400 as an absolute max. I have 150gr Accubonds that I haven’t worked up a good load with just yet, and a Speer 145gr BTSP load that’s moving at 2,850fps although slight accuracy loss compared to the ELD-Xs. Should I maybe go for the Accubond or Speer instead?

Appreciate your insights. Thank you in advance.

I would climb back out of the rabbit hole and not worry about bloodshot at 7mm08 velocities and that bullet.

If it shoots well and you are confident in it, that is a good load.

Have killed and been apart of a lot of kills with that bullet and 7rem mag Elk specifically
