The moose rut is on and we've had 7 different moose in our yard in the last 2 days. That I've seen during the daylight. Yesterday there was a cow n 2 calves hanging out. I take our 9 year old grandson out to go watch the moose. Then I hear him holler moose ! I turned around and there's a spike bull coming out of the bush and into the driveway. Grandson runs to the door and waits for Papa. I'm not to concerned because my beautiful wifes truck was between us. He wandered off into the bush and I wanted him for a bit.
Our Chesapeake found out how too close was a couple nights ago. She was off her lead as usual and started doing her moose in the yard bark. Beautiful wife goes out n to call her into the house. She heard Ruby yelp n come limping in. Next morning I have her out but on her lead. This old yellow backed cow is in the garden and giving the dog the stink eye. I go to get her and the moose charges us. Full run. We made the door n she turned n ran into the bush. Mean one there. Probably has had some bad experiences with wolves n dogs in the past.
A cow with a couple twins, that's great. And another with a single calf been hanging around for a couple weeks now. They look to be in great shape, nice coats n form.
For me, it's great to be able to get to see them as much as we do. Although when the snow gets deep and they want to hang out in the plowed areas around the place. Food is getting hard to get they can get a bit ornery. Just gotta respect them. And always keep your head on a swivel.
I did have to sit down with our grandson. Being 12 feet from a bull moose coming out of the bush and heading directly at you can kinda shake up a 9 year old. I explained how proud I was of him for not panicking and warning me. And holding the door open for me so I could get to safety. Even though he was scared. Guess a 800 pound moose with antlers can do that. But it's always a learning experience. Papa explained a bit about moose language and how fortunate we are to be able to see wildlife like this. And to always always keep your head on a swivel. You get used to that around here in the snowy months, a couple weeks away, and they are exhausted from wading through deep snow and food is getting limited. Just what you teach the kids growing up.
A couple nice pictures Unknown (3).jpg20251002_191257.jpg20251002_191222.jpg20251002_191413(1)(1).jpg

Your a lucky family to be able to enjoy that. If you have a garden ther may be some challenges there😁
