Costco has seasonal runs of cheap puffy jackets...they're not bad.

I got a Patagonia one cheap by using a combo of coupon codes, active junky, and discounted gift cards. If you're internet savvy then you can save a ton of $ by playing this game.

I got an insulated Cabelas nylon fishing jacket with sweatshirt hood a few years back that was on closeout that worked excellent in CO this past season down to about 0 degrees. I hunted in it until it got wet, then switched to layering under a breathable raincoat.
