Browning x bolt problem

I recently bought an x bolt hells canyon, using a 20 moa Browning base to hold the scope. My problem is that I look down the screw holes that hold the base to the action, and the two front most threads are very close to the start of the barrel, and aren't as deep as the others. The screws Browning sent are too long for those two holes, and they stripped out at the bottom when I initially attached the base. Anyone else have problems like this? What did you do to fix it?

I would get some new screws and then shorten them so they don’t make contact with the barrel threads. It’s a very common issue not just on browning either.
You may also just be able to shorten the stripped ones and they might be ok since they won’t be bottomed out now.

How does a guy shorten a screw like that? I've never ran into this problem before.

You can use a file, bench grinder or sander. Need to bevel/blend the end so it threads in also. Might take a few other screws you have laying around and practice on them before you attempt the smaller ones.

Have you called Browning to ask for different screws? Most companies i've dealt with have been pretty responsive to issues like this and will send out the correct replacement parts.

I think when I installed my bases the screws were different for the front and rear. Was last year. Thought I had short screws but the difference is really to small to see, but I switched the screws around and it worked!

I was wondering if that was the case and I just didn't notice. Will be sure to check later today.

I used a Warne Mountain Tech rail on my HC Speed and the front screws were shorter if I recall correctly.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Called Browning and they are sending me some new screws!
