I am looking at either a Browning X-Bolt Hell’s Canyon or a Christensen Mesa in 300 Win Mag. Both are pretty similar in price. Which one would you choose?

Tough choice. Which ever is lighter but if all specs are close then the Mesa. 700 footprint and normally better CS if needed.....
Edit- I have owned both and still have a HCS in 6.5CM

I have owned both. My preference is the christensen. It just feels more "custom" to me. The trigger is awesome, the browning needs a trigger spring but is still a tad "creepy" . The browning has a detachable magazine which is a plus to me. It can be a tough call!

I haven’t handled many browning but my Mesa in 6.5 will never get sold.

The Mesa's have an excellent reputation. If weight and/or shooting heavier bullets matters, read on.

The Browning HC LR comes in at 7.5# and sports a 1:8 barrel vs. the Mesa (not LR) is 7.3# and 1:10 twist.

With the exception of the WSM's the HC LR is faster twist vs. Mesa if you want to shoot heavy bullets.

In short actions, the Mesa is supposed to be 6.5# vs. the HC LR is 7.3#.

The non-LR versions of the HC like the Speed are 6.8# with 1:10 twist.

The Christensen is made in the United States, the Browning in Japan.... I guess I'll always go with the US made product when I can, especially at similar prices.

I own a Ridgeline in 6.5 CM, and it is an incredible shooter. Just messing around the other day, 3 shots @ 300 yards, off the hood of my pickup. Empty 1 # propane canister. I'm very satisfied with that. Not exactly apples to apples, but I just like the Christensen over the Browning.

Just picked up a hells canyon 26in 300WM 2 weeks ago. Its a fantastic shooter. The trigger on this one is crisp, No creep .
Almost ended up with the Christensen 300WM couple years ago, but Sportco had a consigned numbers matched m1 carbine in perfect shape and we got that instead.
Christensen being my last name, I will have one of those at some point too. That rifle felt considerably nicer than everything else they had at the time. Smooth action and great trigger.

Remington 700 platform offers alot of options.
Ive a 30-06 Abolt that shoots 1 hole so Ive no issues with Browning. The box magazine is a plus too...
That said Ive 3 CA rifles and momma has 2.
They are our rifles of choice and shoot factory ammo quite well. As stated above they are USmade
And I applaud that!!!

I’m partial to the browning Xbolt. I have a couple and have had great success with them and the accuracy is amazing. But I had two buddies looking at both of these guns and one went browning and one went Christensen Arms.

Never shot a Mesa, but have a HC Speed in 7mm Rem Mag. After a new trigger spring, I’m consistently shooting 0.5 MOA. I’ve been happy with it on the bench and really happy with it for hunting due to its light weight.

I have a mesa in 308 win. Love the trigger and the stock feels great when I shoulder the gun. I will agree with some of the others I wish it had a detachable magazine. With it being based off the Remington 700 platform you can change up a lot of things if that's something you like to do.

What round are you shooting? I am having fits with most factory ammo. ELDX 200gr shoots just OK

We shot these, plus 165 white tails and I think something else. Pretty much every brand and type that was available locally . We were getting roughly 1 moa @100yds with everything just messing around sighting it in. Wish I saved some of the targets

Is there an option to add a detachable magazine to the Mesa and if so what is the cost? I have a HC Speed Xbolt in 300 WSM that I like but am going to buy a 308 and am seriously considering the Mesa. The only thing I really don't like about the Browning is that the pencil barrel heats up very quickly and ends up meaning lots of downtime at the range waiting for the barrel to cool.

I went and looked at both both are nice in hand finish i would give to browning but from what i have read if i needed to replace the barrel down the rd its harder to do from browning seems like ther aftermarket parts are better for christensen so i lean that way also it just looks and feels better built other than finish 😉 just my opinion
