History... I've loved learning about Browning and his guns after seeing a machine gun in a museum that let us get behind it. The museum was actually for his father, who was a gunsmith as well.

My 90 yo mom is going through some of her treasures. She showed me this article she found in magazines that belonged to my great grandmother.

Its a short article from 1918 and shows a Senator shooting Browning's BAR, and also mentions the newly adopted Browning water cooled machine gun. This article from 2020 mentions congressmen and other testing it. https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/the-browning-automatic-rifle-a-short-history/

Guns today would be very different if Browning had built farm implements instead of firearms. The craziest Browning stat is how long his M2 .50 BMG machinegun has been in service. First designed in 1918 and still the standard heavy machinegun for NATO. Unreal

Crazy how long his designs lasted, and how many patents he was responsible for.

World War 2 the Browning M2 .50 cal was the perfect balance of weight and firepower used in US fighter planes and bombers. My favorite being the P47 Thunderbolt with eight .50 cals holding up to 3400 rounds for air to air or ground attack. British used them also in a few Spitfire variants.

I know I’ve seen BARs talked about with trigger issues in ice, but I’ve personally not seen it even in freezing rain. My assumption is that for light exposure the plated reciever sides really help keep stuff out, but if actually drenched it would become a reservoir for essentially an ice block.

I’m not sure how alike the sporter models internals are, given 50 years and different designers.

I have a huge soft spot for BARs, my only real issue with one was the receiver threads stripping.
@Formidilosus, I have a mark II in '06 I can send...
I’ve been dreaming up a way to get a negative comb and a buttpad at boreline on a bar stock lol

That’s bad ass! 8 fifty cal, gives more meaning to Thunderbolt.
