Brown bear hide shrinkage after tanning?

Can anyone confirm how much a brown bear hide will typically shrink during the tanning process? I have a pretty average bear that squared an honest 9 feet without stretching it. I have heard they shrink as much as 20% during the tanning process. Is this accurate, if the hide is tanned and not soaked and re-stretched?

I have not measured them but all the black bear hides Ive had tanned, Id say 20% is probably accurate.
