That was my concern, seems like there's too much money in it with the guidesNo one will fly you for sheep anymore. They will only fly the guided non resident hunters.
Don't waste your time - they are "not flying sheep hunters due to poor sheep populations" then go and dump piles of NR guided hunters in.Start your inquiries with Coyote Air and Brooks Range Aviation. These are the specialists for your specific area. If they are booked, 70 North's hunting division is a strong next call.
It’s a legit racket. I called once to go on a sheep hunt and they said no we don’t have time/space etc. I called back for the exact same time and destination And said I wanted a drop off for a fishing trip with my son- was booked immediately and at true air hour rates as opposed to the super over inflated “flat rate” for a hunting trip! That was my concern, seems like there's too much money in it with the guides
That’s pretty awesome! Shame it has to be that way though. It’s a legit racket. And yes we did kill a sheep! Stuffed it in the duffel and all our other gear and we never said anything! And they never asked. Not unusual to take a rifle in AK for camping/fishing trips, bear protection.
One caveat is certain lands do require operators to report hunting use and can be limited (especially National Park (preserve) lands) Also they don’t want to out hunters on top of others, but outfitters with long term connections generally get first dibs…
easier to do with a sheep than a moose ...It’s a legit racket.
